Louisiana was called Land of the Golden Hills by the early French explorers and rightfully so.

The first settlers made their homes here in 1808. Today, like the early settlers many find Louisiana offers a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for raising a family and operating a business. Three years after the first settlers came here, Buffalo Fort was built. In 1818 the original plat was laid out for the city and it became the county's first county seat.The State Department of Natural Resources has said Louisiana has "the most intact Victorian Streetscape in the state of Missouri" Georgia Street Historic District has over 54 Buildings in the downtown. Roughly bounded by Main Street to the east and 7th street to the west (the site of the imposing Greek revival Masonic Lodge)
