Stratford Library Offers "Pride 2022" Events

The Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street will offer an array of events in conjunction with the nationwide observance of "Pride Month 2022". A series of online programs and in-person events will celebrate the history and accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community. All library events, sponsored by the Stratford Library and the Square One Theatre Company, are free and open to the public.

Lobby Display: Check out LGBTQ+ fiction, non-fiction and DVDs that celebrate and enlighten. On display throughout June 2022.

Families: A Rainbow theme craft to celebrate "Pride Month" is planned. Supplies can be picked up in the Children's Department from June 8th to 30th. Celebrate and support the many different kinds of families in our Stratford community with rainbow streamers, hearts and more.

Events for Adults:

June 16, 7 pm: Talk: "Dr. William Reszelbach — Child of the Holocaust" Join Dr. Reszelbach, a child of Holocaust survivors, as he shares his family's harrowing experiences at the hands of the Nazis, coupled with Holocaust history. Reszelbach will discuss his parents will to survive and how these traumatic events affected their new life in the USA, as well as his own life, and his perspective on modern-day anti-Semitism and the treatment of the LGBTQ+ community during the Holocaust. June 22, 7 pm, Lovell Room: Readers Theatre Showcase: "The Busy World is Hushed" Keith Bunin's provocative drama pits a minister and bible scholar at odds with her gay son. Live, staged reading.

June 27, 12 pm, The Stratford Library's popular "Monday Matinees" series has rescheduled its showing of recent Oscar winner, "The Power of the Dog". The critically acclaimed film, special for "Pride Month" at the Library, was originally scheduled for earlier in June but hit technical difficulties. The film, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch in an Oscar-nominated performance, will now be shown at the Stratford Library on Monday, June 27 at noon. It is rated R and runs 127 minutes.

June 28, 7 pm, Lovell Room: Meet-the-Author: Jillian Celentano A 61-year-old transgender woman who transitioned six years ago, Jillian is an advocate for the transgender community and will openly discuss the coming out and transition processes. She will also discuss her personal memoir, "Transitioning Later in Life: A Person Guide". Autographed copies of her book will be available for purchase following her talk.

June 29, 12 pm: Books Over Coffee: "My Policeman" In this evocative portrait of midcentury England, Bethan Roberts reimagines the real life relationship the novelist E. M. Forster had with a policeman and his wife. A deeply heartfelt story of love's passionate endurance, and the devastation wrought by a repressive society.
