John Waters Returns To Participate In Six Bridges Book Festival

Schools and Libraries

July 18, 2022

From: Central Arkansas Library System

Little Rock, AR –  The Central Arkansas Library System's (CALS) Six Bridges Book Festival has announced that tickets are now on sale for False Negative: An Evening with John Waters on Saturday, Oct. 22. This live event will take place at CALS Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Avenue, at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets are now available at sixbridgesbookfestival.org. Following the show, Waters will sign books. Masks will be required that evening.

Waters’ rapid-fire one man “vaudeville” act is updated and expanded from the original film version that enjoyed critical success at the Edinburgh, Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals. The live performance focuses on Waters’ early negative artistic influences, his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, the extremes of the art world, Catholicism, sexual deviancy, and a love of reading. He was a speaker at the Festival in 2015.

“We’re thrilled to be able to present John to Fest audiences again," said Brad Mooy, Six Bridges Book Festival Coordinator. "It will have been seven and a half years since his last very memorable appearance. We’ve wanted to have him back ever since. With the release of his new book, and after the craziness of the last few years, this seemed like a wonderful time. I’d encourage anyone open to humor, who understands and appreciates his acerbic take on culture, to purchase a ticket early, as his event sold out in 2015. He is a fabulous raconteur for the unafraid."

Waters is a writer, a film director, an actor, and a visual artist best known for his films, including Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, and Serial Mom. He is the author of the national bestsellers Role Models, Carsick and Mr. Know-It-All. His spoken word shows continue to be performed around the world.

Waters’ first novel, Liarmouth, was released in May. It is a hilariously filthy tale of sex, crime, and family dysfunction; readers will thrill to hop aboard this delirious road trip of riotous revenge.

Books are on sale now through the Festival’s partner WordsWorth Books, and will be available that night.

The Ron Robinson Theater will also be screening a Waters’ film during the Six Bridges Book Festival.  Check the theater’s website closer to the Festival dates for more information on this screening.

The Waters program is part of the Central Arkansas Library System’s Speakers Series honoring Fred K. Darragh, a longtime trustee of the Public Library with a deep “commitment to intellectual freedom and accessibility to books and information for all people, regardless of race, economic status, or age.”
