ICYMI: Southern Democratic Chairs Hold Trump Accountable for Abortion Bans

On Tuesday, DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker joined Chairs Nikki Fried (FL), Nikema Williams (GA), and Anderson Clayton (NC) for a press call ahead of the extreme abortion ban Donald Trump made possible that took effect in Florida on Wednesday. It comes the same week as the two-year anniversary of the leak of the Dobbs ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade. The chairs had a simple message: Trump is responsible for extreme bans in Florida and across the country, and he won't stop until abortion is banned nationwide.

Virginia is the only state in the South without an extreme abortion ban or restrictions. Susan Swecker said: “Simply put, we cannot let Donald Trump implement a national abortion ban. He is responsible for the pain and suffering that women in the South have endured. He even brags about it. We know in Virginia that voters go to the polls with abortion at the top of their minds. We know in Virginia that our Democrats have protected and fought for not only Virginians, but women across the South. And we know in Virginia that our reproductive rights cannot be taken for granted. Because we also know that if Donald Trump gets back into the White House, he will try to take his extreme abortion ban nationwide and rip reproductive rights away from Virginians, as well.”
