From: Glide

Dear GLIDE community,

We hope you'll be able to join us this coming Sunday for a couple of very special events!

First, we'll welcome our new President and CEO, Dr. Gina Fromer, to Sunday celebrations at 9 am and 11 am -- you can join us in-person at 330 Ellis Street, or via livestream online.   You can read more about Dr. Fromer, a Bayview-Hunters Point native and past GLIDE services recipient as a mother of three, here ... and for more information on our other special guests this Sunday, please see the forwarded celebration announcement below.

Second, this Sunday marks the return of Sunday Streets to the Tenderloin -- San Francisco’s open streets program that reclaims car-congested streets for community health, transforming them into car-free spaces for all to enjoy.  We'll be out on Ellis Street with games, info booths, music and more!  (More info is here.)

Thanks so much -- and we hope to see you!

Dear GLIDE Supporter,

This is a special invitation to join us this Sunday for Glide Memorial Church’s in-person and virtual Sunday Celebrations and Church Announcements. This Sunday we will continue to celebrate "Wisdom Traditions: Honoring Our Ancestors, Remembering Our Sacred Stories."

Dr. Gina Fromer, GLIDE's new President and CEO, will be introduced to our congregation, clients and community and preach her inaugural sermon. Gina is a sixth generation San Franciscan whose personal experience, education and professional life has uniquely brought her to our door at precisely this moment in GLIDE’s storied history. In her personal experience, she has accessed GLIDE’s services as a young mother. In her educational life, she has studied organizational psychology earning her doctorate in Organizational Development & Leadership. In her professional life, she has held increasing levels of executive leadership among Bay Area non-profits with a deep focus on women, children and families.

Ramona Laughing Brook Webb will provide a land acknowledgement and inspire us with poetry wisdom. Ramona is working at the intersections of performance, art, culture change and improved communications around gender and racial/ethnic disparities and health disparities.

We will celebrate the life and musical legacy and contributions of John Turk, Jr., who passed away in 2018. For 36 transformative years, he served as Music Director at Glide Memorial Church, leading both the Glide Ensemble and Change Band. John was inducted into the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame and was an early member of the iconic band, Sly and the Family Stone. Special musical guests include soloists Cheryl Turk and Leah Tysse.

Minister Marvin K. White will share theopoetics and heart strengthening prayers. The Change Band will delight us with music and the Glide Ensemble will be singing songs that inspire.

Throughout the month you are invited to add names, photos and stories of the dearly departed who are important to you on our All Saints and Día de Muertos virtual ofrenda, a veneration of love altar. We will be celebrating these and other saints at our October 29th Celebrations.

Join us this Sunday at 9 and 11 am Pacific Time at 330 Ellis Street, or on Facebook Live or YouTube.

Every Sunday during Celebration is Writers Church where we provide writing prompts, free writing journals and pens to all.

And GLIDE will be participating in Sunday Streets, a Family Friendly Party on Ellis Street from 11 am – 4pm. Family friendly events will reclaim car-congested streets for community health, transforming them into car-free spaces for all to enjoy. The party features fun, free activities provided by local nonprofits, community groups and small businesses. There will be games, info booths, music and more! Stay tuned for ways to volunteer and participate.

See the full list of guests and events for October Celebrations on our announcements page.

We look forward to seeing you!

As Always, Love Always,

Glide Memorial Church
